Fairhaven School Food Service
Fairhaven School offers nutritious breakfast and lunch options each day.
National School Lunch & Breakfast Program
Fairhaven School offers breakfast and lunch each day through the Child Nutrition Programs of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Each student is eligible to receive one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal each school day through the Community Eligibility Provision
The USDA recognizes 5 food groups important at each meal: grains, meat/meat alternatives, fruit, vegetable, and milk. Our school participates in Offer vs. Serve, where our school age students in grades 9-12 select each component of the meal they want versus our staff serving the whole meal.
Students must select at least 3 food items (with at least one fruit/vegetable component) to create a complete meal. In other words, they need to pick 3 to make it free! Our staff is here to guide students on selecting a complete meal.

A number of tools and resources are available to help schools identify food items that meet Smart Snacks criteria. See the resources below for information about the Smart Snacks requirement, helpful tools, and ways to encourage children to make healthier snack choices that give them the nutrition they need to grow and learn.
